미국 서부의 급진적 건축 교육과 건축조형의 진보 : SCI-ARC

Eric Owen Moss가 이끌고 있는 SCI-ARC의 스튜디오들과 작품들을 리뷰해 볼 수 있는 영상입니다. 

프랑스 퐁피두에서 있었던, 심포지엄을 요약한 내용입니다. 

미국 서부의 극진적 건축 디자인 경향은, 최신 기술과 접목하여 쉽게 경험할 수 없는 시각적 경험을 가능케 하는 듯 합니다. 

영국의 AA나 바틀렛이 주도하던, radical architecture의 흐름을 뛰어넘어 독자적인 영역을 만들어 가고 있습니다. 

특히 2D Drawing의 강한 자극과 영감뿐 아니라, 이를 3D manufacturing으로 이어나가는데에서 찬사가 저절로 나옵니다. 

그만큼 다양한 경험을 가진 교수진들을 수용하고, 그들에게 연구의 자유를 주었기에 가능했다고 생각합니다. 

그에 반하면, 국내에는 이러한 경형의 건축가도, 학교도 전혀 움직임이 없습니다. 

특히 디자인분야에서의 연구라는 부분이 거의 보이지 않는게 국내 현실입니다. 

장윤규? 조민석? 건축가분들이 이제는 젊은 건축가를 지나, 중견으로 나아가고 있습니다만, 

그 뒤를 잇거나 또는 그들과 어깨를 나란히 할만한 젊은 건축가의 등장이 보이지 않습니다. 

젋은 건축가들이 생존하는 방법은, 그들의 열정페이를 통한 저가의 주택공급에 그치고 있다는 점이 아쉽니다. 

젊음이 가진, 혁신이 가미되면 좋을텐데 말입니다. 

이는 건축 교육에서의 모습도 마찬가지 입니다. 

국내 건축학교들은 각 학교만의 독자적인 성향(character)를 보기가 너무 힘듭니다. 

국민대, 홍익대가 보여주던 모습들도 이제는 시들해지고, 그 다음으로 전진하지 못하는것 같습니다. 

그저 grasshopper 조금 만지는 수준에서 이야기되어서는 안됩니다. 

사회전반에 걸친 구조적 문제를 쉽게 해결할 수는 없지만, 

다양한 의견들을 수렴하여 합의점을 만들어나가는 모습들이 지속적으로 보여졌으면 합니다. 

요즘 특히 연합형태의 건축전시가 많이 일어나고 있으니, 

조금씩 나아지리라 낙관은 해봅니다.

Symposium for "Advances in Architectural Geometry 2012"   Centre Pompidou, Paris   September 27-30, 2012   SCI-Arc is pleased to announce its participation in the Advances in Architectural Geometry (AAG) symposium    hosted September 27-30 at the Centre Pompidou, Paris. The unprecedented event introduces theoretical works  and practices linked to new geometrical development applicable to architecture. AAG has become a reference in  the professional field and is supported by the direct participation of some of the most renowned architectural  design and engineering offices, along with academic laboratories.   SCI-Arc is among 15 world-renowned architecture schools invited to submit a video presentation dedicated to  recent developments in architectural geometry and computation.
